Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal therapy is the treatment of gum disease, also called periodontal disease. It focuses on removing infection and bacteria from the gums and supporting structures around the teeth to help stop damage, reduce inflammation, and protect teeth from tooth loss.
Common signs someone may need periodontal therapy include:
- Bleeding gums
- Swollen or red gums
- Bad breath
- Gum recession
- Loose teeth
- Deep pockets between the teeth and gums
Treatment can include:
- Deep cleanings (scaling and root planing)
- Antibiotic therapy
- Laser treatment
- Gum maintenance cleanings
- In severe cases, periodontal surgery
The goal is to restore gum health and prevent further bone and tooth loss.
