Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment that helps straighten teeth and correct various bite issues. It is an alternative to traditional metal braces and offers a more discreet and convenient way to achieve a straighter smile.
- Clear Aligners: Invisalign treatment involves the use of clear, custom-made plastic aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. These aligners are virtually invisible when worn, making them a more aesthetically pleasing option compared to traditional braces.
- Customized Treatment: Each set of Invisalign aligners is custom-designed for an individual's specific dental needs. A detailed 3D scan or impression of the patient's teeth is used to create a personalized treatment plan, which maps out the gradual movement of teeth throughout the treatment.
- Removable: Invisalign aligners are removable, allowing for easier eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing compared to traditional braces. However, they should be worn for at least 20-22 hours per day for effective results.
- Gradual Progression: Patients typically receive a series of aligners, each slightly different from the previous one, to gradually move their teeth into the desired positions. The patient switches to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks as their teeth progress.
- Minimal Discomfort: Invisalign aligners are made of smooth plastic, which tends to be more comfortable than traditional braces that may have wires and brackets that can irritate the mouth.
- Treatment Duration: The length of Invisalign treatment varies from person to person, depending on the complexity of the dental issues being addressed. On average, treatment can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months.
- Monitoring Progress: Patients typically have regular check-up appointments with their orthodontist or dentist to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned. Adjustments may be made as needed during these appointments.
- Versatile Application: Invisalign can address a wide range of orthodontic issues, including overcrowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. However, it may not be suitable for extremely complex cases.
- Maintenance: Proper care of the aligners is essential. Patients should clean them regularly and avoid eating or drinking (except water) while wearing them to prevent staining and odor.
- Post-Treatment: After the active phase of Invisalign treatment is completed, patients often wear a retainer to maintain their newly aligned teeth and prevent them from shifting back into their original positions.
